Thursday Update on Mark

No skin grafts were done yesterday because more test results came back saying that Mark’s leg was infected. Yes, first it was, and then it wasn’t; now they say it is.… They switched his antibiotic to combat the particular infection he has. Today they also switched some pain medication, which ended up having a very adverse effect on Mark. Instructions were given this afternoon to go back to the original regimen, but after the shift change, there was another mix-up, so Mark has gone quite a while without any pain medication. Mom just finished talking with the nurse on the phone and hopefully the issue has been resolved, but it will take a while to get the proper meds from the pharmacy. Not sure who reads this post, or when it is read, but if anyone is able to pray for Mark tonight, that would be appreciated. When Mom and I left the hospital this afternoon, a nurse read through the chart with us—because we still haven’t seen the surgeon. The latest word is that another culture was to be taken tonight. If the infection has cleared up, the surgeon would most likely begin the skin grafting. If the infection has not cleared up, Mark would be sent home and the skin grafting done another time. When Mark called Mom about the pain med mix-up a little while ago, he said the nurse thought his leg looked good, so she did not do the culture. We will find out tomorrow, but we’re guessing the surgeon would need more conclusive evidence in order to make a decision. Carrie, Sandy, Mom and I had lunch together in the cafeteria and then these two kind nurse friends came up to Mark’s room as our advocates and personal nursing team! Their help has been invaluable and we thank the Lord for them. Again, we praise God for His sovereignty—that even when results change, decisions change, medications change, shifts change, God never changes, He is the same yesterday, today and forever and we take comfort in that!

It is 2:38 in the morning on Friday and I am praying for Mark. Uncle Steve and I have been reading this blog every day & praying for healing for Mark. We also have several of our friends from church praying for him.
